How to play three card poker

Three card stud poker is also known as stud poker. The rules may sound complicated, but once you get the hang of it, you realise there’s nothing wrong. Regardless of whether you plan to play online casino or a real live table, three card poker offers a fun and rewarding experience, whether played for money.

The basics

Three Card Poker can be played by 1-6 people at the same time. The limit is the number of boxes, of which there are a maximum of 6. One player may only play one box at a time if they are the only player at the table. It is possible to participate openly on all lines. Contributions to the boxes can be the same or different.

The dealer or dealer’s croupier deals. It is his responsibility to distribute the cards between him and the participants. Everyone gets 3 pieces in their hands. Once the cards have been dealt, the player can study them immediately. The following combinations are considered winning:

• a minimum game – the presence of a queen;
• a pair of cards of the same rank;
• flush;
• straight;
• a square;
• a straight flush.

There is no royal flush in this type of poker. The card combinations follow an ascending sequence. At the start of the game, players must roll a chip, i.e. place a mandatory bet.

Briefly about stakes

Three-card stud poker is all about betting. There are 3 types:

• Ante – the starting bet required to start the game;
• Bonus ante – a bonus bet, which the player makes at will before the start of the deal, when he intends to get additional winnings;
• Pair Plus – A bonus bet, paid at the time of receiving a pair or higher combination, and it is also made before the cards are dealt.

The game is much more interesting when there is more than one player. Nevertheless, playing against a croupier, or rather against a casino, the chances of winning are much higher.

An example of a hand and gameplay

After the hand is dealt, the player reads the cards received. He may then hit back with a bet equal to the ante in a given game, or discard the cards if he feels there is no chance. After the player has spoken, the dealer shows his cards. The cards are then compared and the winner is determined.

With traditional bets and winning combinations the payment is 1:1. If the player intends to win more, he needs to make a pair plus and an ante bonus in addition to the ante.

In three-card poker, there is no exchange. If a player is dealt a pair or higher combination of cards, then a Pair Plus bet is payable, as stated in the rules of the game. In all cases, victory depends on the cards that went to the player and the dealer. The comparison of combinations is made according to seniority, as in other forms of poker.

Another important gambling tip is that the player can only make a pair plus. The dealer then deals the hand and the cards are checked. If the player receives a pair or higher combination, the bonus is rewarded. If the set is less than a pair, the bet goes to the casino.
